Bits In Glass Launches Benefits Coverage Manager on the Appian AppMarket
Denver, Colorado - July 31, 2019 - Bits In Glass (BIG), an award-winning, software consulting firm serving clients across North America, is announcing that it has launched a new software solution: the Benefits Coverage Manager Accelerator (BCM) based on the Appian platform. BCM enables the efficient management of health insurance benefit plans by eliminating excess manual work and providing instant access to critical information related to these plans.
Accelerators are the baseline software that provides the core functionality for a particular business function. By leveraging accelerators, companies can expect to complete their implementation in less than half the time as they would starting from scratch.
Spending on healthcare in the U.S. is projected to grow from $3.6 trillion in 2018 to $6 trillion by 2027. This is the result of many factors, including an aging population and rising drug costs, and has also caused more insurance firms to enter the market, increasing competition and driving the need for efficient management of plans.
The Affordable Care Act has brought in more comprehensive coverage, but this has come at a price, with increased regulations and compliance standards. It is recommended that employers that sponsor group health plans implement a process for reviewing federal health-care benefit requirements at least quarterly to ensure that they are up to date with newly issued or soon-to-be issued regulations.
“Health plan administrators typically have had to execute manual processes to support the creation, review, filing, and subsequent operational distribution of health benefit plans, this has resulted in high administrative costs. Further, extensive manual processing of plans has also meant that the risk of human error is high,” said David Hauser, Founding Partner and Appian Practice Lead for Bits In Glass.
Details of an insurance benefit plan must be frequently referenced to support and manage sales and enrollment, determine claim pricing and adjudication, and support the monitoring of the member’s accumulation of deductibles and out of pocket costs.
“Manual data management causes inefficiencies by slowing the creation, approval, and review processes. This can cause delays in bringing plans to market and filing the plans with the correct government departments,” added Hauser. “Finally, downstream systems need to also be consistently updated with relevant details to support day-to-day operational activities.”
BCM provides a centralized system for health plans to configure, review, and distribute benefit details throughout your organization. The application streamlines and automates the definition, review, and approval of plans in advance of critical deadlines. When changes are required, the application provides a central point of information, removing the need to manually update plan data, avoiding latency and human error.
