Davis Cup players launch Floodlit Centre of Excellence in Tennis at DPSG Meerut Road, a historic moment for the city of Ghaziabad.
Tennis fans from Ghaziabad got to witness historic tennis moments as Davis Cup stars descended at the Delhi Public School Ghaziabad, Meerut Road for the launch of the Centre of Excellence in Tennis.
For the first time in Ghaziabad, India's highest-seeded singles player, Ramkumar Ramanathan and emerging star, Digvijay Singh, who won the Davis Cup match against Morocco 4-1, held yesterday in Lucknow played an exhibition tie amidst a gathering of tennis fans and students of DPSG Meerut Road.
The event, billed as 'DPSG TENNIS LEGENDS', was also graced by Sh. Vikramaditya Malik, Municipal Commissioner, Ghaziabad; Col. R S Chauhan, DLTA; Sh. Om Pathak, Chairman of DPSGS; Mr. Anshul Pathak, Vice Chairman, DPSGS, among other dignitaries.
Encouraging the students of DPSG MR to benefit from the Tennis facility, Sh. Om Pathak, Chairman of Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society in his address mentioned: "This is a historic moment for all of us in Ghaziabad. DPSG Meerut Road is synonymous with the city, and we believe in doing the utmost for our community". It is noteworthy that Sh. Om Pathak has shaped Indian Sports as a Member of the Prime Minister Olympic Task Force and inspired the largest grass roots programme in the country, the School Sports Promotion Foundation.
On this occasion, India's Davis Cup ace and ATP Tour title winner, Ramkumar Ramanathan, said, "This is my first time in Ghaziabad. I have heard great things about the school being a pioneer in academic excellence and sports. Sports build a strong foundation. It is very heartening to see that DPSG Meerut Road is investing in the future of the country."
India's Davis Cup team member, Digvijay Singh said, "I am really looking forward to playing in the DPSG Tennis Legends event at DPSG Meerut Road, Ghaziabad. I have grown up playing tennis in different part of the country and I am thrilled to get an opportunity to promote the game amongst the youth of Ghaziabad."
DPSG Meerut Road Principal, Captain (Dr.) Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh said, "As a school we like to be a trend-setter to inspire the youth of Ghaziabad in every field, from academics to sports, fine arts, theatre, and music. DPSG Meerut Road is the country's premier school which ushered in scholastic excellence for school education 43 years ago. Rishi Kalra, AIR 3 in JEE Advance 2023, and Tanisha Bhatia, the 'Rocket Lady', who was part of the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, are couple of young alumni achievers of the school this year".
