Eliminating the QuickBooks Audit trail

Kingston, March 2, 2023: An audit trail is a sequence of recorded computer events that involves any activity around the operating system, applications or user actions. One computer can have several audit trails that each serve a different purpose.
Audit trails (or audit logs) act as record-keepers that document evidence of certain events, procedures or operations, so their purpose is to reduce fraud, material errors, and unauthorized use. The feature takes the form of a report. It is referred to as the Activity Log for QuickBooks Online program users. It shows each transaction that has been made, along with any modifications, deletions or additions that affect the transactions.
An audit trail is important because it's used to verify and validate financial, software, and business transactions by tracking selected user activities or accounting financial statement amounts back to the transaction, event source, and data access used to create or modify a record. An audit trail helps businesses detect unauthorized use, errors, and fraud.
Due to the number of transactions it holds, the Audit Trail is can result in a fairly large QuickBooks file. This is because as the number of transactions increase in a data file, the audit trail grows by a factor of 2. This is when removing the audit trail would benefit functionality.
Removing the audit trail brings down the file size of a data file and speeds up QuickBooks. Removing the audit trail also limits data that is presented to government or other agencies such as the CRA and IRS for data audits.
