Fighting Hunger with Every Missed Call: "Hunger Free Bharat" mission Launched by The Restaurant Cricket League & Adi Bodh Foundation to address Food Security
National, India, 09.01.25: The Restaurant Cricket League (RCL), a unique national cricket tournament supported by Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in collaboration with the Adi Bodh Foundation, has launched the "Hunger Free Bharat" mission, a transformative initiative aimed at eradicating hunger and minimizing food waste across the nation. This mission aligns with the Hon'ble Prime Minister's idea of Viksit Bharat 2047 and aids the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by the year 2030, thus making citizens, businesses, and policymakers ensure that no plate goes empty.
Hunger Free Bharat Mission (www.hungerfreebharat.org) aims to bridge the gap between food waste and hunger by creating a sustainable distribution system. This mission is a nationwide movement to build a fairer and more equitable society where nourishment is a right for all. The campaign emphasizes awareness, collaboration, and actionable solutions to combat food waste. By uniting stakeholders from all sectors, Hunger-Free Bharat mission strives to establish an ecosystem that redistributes surplus food efficiently to those in need. Each meal saved and each act of generosity brings India closer to a future free from hunger.
Mr. Arvind Kumar, Founder of The Restaurant Cricket League said, "A hunger-free Bharat mission is not merely a mission; it is a movement reflecting our collective responsibility of ensuring that no person in our country sleeps without food. It highlights our commitment to reform how we distribute food to empower every Indian to play their role in a future without hunger. Together, we would turn waste into wealth, with hunger as a thing of the past."
The contradiction between hunger and the wastage of food in India is one of its greatest challenges. Every year, 68.8 million tons of food, worth around ₹7,92,000 crores is wasted, while 33.4 million children below the age of five suffer from malnutrition, with 17.2 million of them in severe distress. Hunger Free Bharat mission is making an effort to address the contradiction by changing mindsets on surplus food and how it can be utilized, offering a sustainable and scalable solution to the two interdependent problems of food waste and malnutrition.
On this Mr. Abhishek Bhatnagar, Co-Founder of The Restaurant Cricket League, appeals and expresses, "This mission also intends to highlight the role of technology and community participation. By making a missed call to 9213332999, or engaging through the Hunger Free Bharat mission platform, individuals can be a part of this significant initiative. This would not only redistribute surplus food but would also spread awareness among people and engage them to minimize food wastage at every level."
By fostering a sustainable and equitable future, this mission is promoting collaborations and a culture of sharing. Hunger Free Bharat mission calls upon every citizen, organization, and policymaker to take part in building an India where food abundance makes nourishment possible for all.
About the Restaurant Cricket League (RCL) - https://www.rclindia.com
The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that approximately one-third of food produced for human consumption is wasted each year, resulting in 1.3 billion tons of food waste worldwide. On the other hand in 2020, nearly 811 million people worldwide were suffering from hunger while a staggering 2.4 billion people, or above 30 percent of the world's population, were moderately or severely food-insecure, lacking regular access to adequate food. The UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 is thus dedicated to creating a world free of hunger by 2030.
The Restaurant Cricket League (RCL) an annual men's T10 cricket league was thus founded in 2023 with an aim to raise awareness on food security, reduce wastage & facilitate the reaction of food banks - ensuring free access to safe, hygienic & adequate food for the needy sections of the society.
The 3rd edition of the league; RCL 2025 is also dedicated to supporting the Government of India's flagship programs such as the Khelo India Programme, FIT India Movement, Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, POSHAN Abhiyaan, Eat Right India Movement, and the Incredible India Campaign.
Together, through sport, community engagement and action, RCL aims to be a truly holistic initiative dedicated to contributing meaningfully to India's development journey.
