Global Sustainability Trending Forward 2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA) now open for registration
[Taipei News] The "2023 Asia Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards", organized by the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) Executive Committee of the TAISE, provides an excellent platform for showcasing sustainable actions. The awards aim to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements and contributions by businesses, universities, hospitals, governments, and non-profit organizations in implementing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The award ceremony will be held on July 21 in conjunction with the second Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo and Summit, to highlight and recognize the sustainable achievements of outstanding organizations. Applications for the awards are now open, and all are welcome to participate.
According to TAISE Chairman, Ambassador-at-large Dr. Eugene Chien, the United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects report (WESP) report, indicates that the global economy has suffered greatly due to a series of interrelated crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the food and energy crises triggered by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, inflation, and the climate emergency. It is estimated that the world economy will grow at a rate of 1.9% in 2023, down from the estimated 3.0% in 2022, making it one of the weakest years of growth in decades. The United Nations Secretary-General has called on governments around the world to propose more transformative sustainable development goals and stimulus plans and to take strong fiscal measures to revitalize the global economy, while continuing to support the sustainable development agenda.
The ambassador further stated that time flies, and there are only six years left until the "Agenda 2030" for sustainable development. Governments around the world should respond to the United Nations' recommendations and accelerate their efforts to implement SDG-related policies in the face of multiple crises. Over the past seven years, Taiwan has transformed SDGs from advocacy to practical sustainable action through the joint efforts of the public and private sectors. Many organizations have incorporated SDGs into their internal culture and adopted innovative strategies to achieve sustainable development goals. There have already been many inspiring breakthroughs and success stories. It is hoped that through the "Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards" and the "Asia-Pacific Sustainable Action Expo and Summit," everyone can showcase Taiwan's abundant and diverse sustainable action to the world.
The award selection activity will present three major award categories: (1) the "Sustainable Action Award" to encourage all sectors to implement SDGs, (2) the "Livability Sustainable City Award" to encourage local governments to implement sustainable policies and achieve sustainable cities, and (3) the "Top Sustainable Leader Award" to commend individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting corporate sustainable development and serve as models for others. This year's award ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Sustainable Action Expo and Summit, with more than 160 public and private sector exhibitions (435 booths) and over 20,000 visitors expected. The event will have high international and social visibility, providing attendees with the opportunity to learn about outstanding SDGs, CSR, and USR performances and innovative practices from various sectors at home and abroad. Through this international event, cross-industry alliances and opportunities to explore domestic and international markets will be fostered, driving corporate innovation and boosting international competitiveness. We sincerely invite businesses, universities, hospitals, governments, and non-profit organizations to participate actively in the awards.
