New Program: Addressing Racism From The Inside Out
COVID-19 is revealing the cracks in our relationships and systems. Every day, we read or experience new situations where both personal and systemic racism is revealing itself. We know from history, from our own experiences and from news around the world that racism not only hurts and creates deep injustices, it also kills.
With effects felt in our policing and legal systems, health care systems, education, sports and entertainment, workplaces, and our everyday lives, racism exists in the hearts and minds of many people as well as institutional systems. With such prevalence and complexity, it can be hard to see the whole picture and know where to put our efforts.
Now more than ever, we need to dismantle racism from the inside out by engaging both people and systems. To support individuals, organizations, and communities in helping to make these changes, Jessie Sutherland invites you to a new 3-part online series: Addressing Racism From The Inside Out.
Jessie Sutherland states, “Racism is embedded in systems. And systems can only exist if all the people in that system either go along with the program or bury their heads in the sand. When people are provided with practical tools and recognize their capacity to influence any given system – within ourselves, our families, our workplaces and our communities – we can make and be the change together.”
Each session will share powerful stories and case studies for attendees to learn, integrate and apply practical skills to increase the collective impact in our social change efforts.
Part 1: Addressing Racism Within Ourselves

Part 3: Addressing Racism As A Target
with Kathy Shecapio

This series is content rich and highly interactive, so there are lots of opportunities for attendees to participate fully.
In addition to the core training and workbook, there are supportive follow-up resources and bonuses to help deepen the learning of participants, including recorded interviews with other distinguished guest speakers (Justine Hwang, Constance Backhouse, Grace Balbutin, and Hussein Janmohamed) and 3 months of access to Jessie Sutherland’s Community of Practice group.
Based on Jessie's 30 years of research and the award-winning Belonging Matters framework in combination with the insights and case studies of the powerful program guest speakers, Addressing Racism From the Inside Out promises to help community builders, change-makers and organizational leaders unite and, together, roll up our sleeves to make the difference we all yearn for—a sustainable, diverse and connected world.
