Shaken, not stirred - Oliver Kessler releases unique swinging ceiling fan The Sensu Punkah
A punkah fan is a ceiling fan that provides gentle breezes by swinging an axle-mounted blade back and forth. It used to be very popular in India, in the Southern parts of the USA and in Australia. The punkah fan was widely replaced by rotating fans at the beginning of the 20th century since they were easier and therefore cheaper to manufacture.
The Sensu Punkah is the latest brainchild of German designer Oliver Kessler, who based the technology on his luxury fan The Solitaire Punkah, which is on the market for a couple of years now.
The Sensu Punkah is designed, engineered and manufactured in Germany and brings back the majestic and calming pendulum swing of a large fabric blade to those who rather like to sensation of frequent gentle breezes of air than a constant draft of air.
A computer controlled drivetrain allows a very low noise and highly energy efficient operation with merely 15W power consumption.
The remote control operates the ceiling fan in 3 speeds. A timer allows to automatically switch it off after a preselected time. When stopped, the blade will move into a horizontal park position to minimize its visual footprint.
An LED halo ambient lamp can be added and is dimmable in 4 steps with the remote control. Multiple The Sensu Punkahs can be connected via SynchCable to synchronize the movement of their blades for larger areas like lobbies or restaurants.
The Sensu Punkah is available from August 2018 and starts at EUR 2.600,00 per unit.

One of its branches is the development and manufacturing of design objects that are sold under the Oliver Kessler brand name.
