Stylish solar protection in a prime location

Since 2022, Weingut Kopp, a winery near Baden-Baden, southern Germany, has been attracting visitors, not just because of its exquisite wines, but also by virtue of the upmarket regional cuisine offered by its new restaurant "Ebanat". And all of this with a spectacular view over the vineyards and into the Rhine valley. An awning system by markilux that perfectly suits the characterful architecture of the building in terms of colour provides the necessary shade.

In 2020, the Kopp family from Sinzheim-Ebenung in the northern Black Forest decided to extend its winery, which was already well known for its exquisite wines, with an equally outstanding restaurant. The idea for this was something the owners had brought back with them from a stay in South Africa a few years earlier. After two years of construction work, the pair were able to inaugurate the concept last September with the "Ebanat" Restaurant and the new vinotheque at the winery.

Awnings suit the characterful architecture
The location rises impressively from the vineyard landscape like an angular mass of rock. With its iron-patinated façade, the architecture skilfully picks up on the characteristic ferrous soils commonly found in this wine-growing region. Light-coloured concrete features and natural sandstone walls contrast brightly with this. As does the multi-sectioned awning system from manufacturer markilux with its cream-coloured covers. Since 2022, it has been shading the restaurant terrace and the spacious window frontage of the dining area that offers spectacular views of the vineyards and the Rhine valley.

Solar protection as part of a stylish experience
"The building's architect had recommended our services. Ultimately, the quality of our products was key to the owners of the winery deciding in favour of markilux," explains Jan Kattenbeck, head of "markilux project". The wind-exposed location on the western edge of the Fremersberg, near Baden-Baden, required very stable folding-arm awnings whose pitch could be freely adjusted in terms of their orientation towards the sun. And that is why eight individual awnings from the product ranges markilux 5010 and 990 were installed on the 35-metre long, covered restaurant terrace. Their full cassettes have been kept in the same colour as the façade and thus blend into the overall appearance. The covers, on the other hand, are an elegant eye-catcher on the window frontage and provide a bright contrast to the more earthy appearance of the surrounding building. Jan Kattenbeck finds this interplay of material and colour extremely exciting: "With the open, light-filled room concept of the restaurant and vinotheque, the winery offers its guests unsurpassed wining and dining pleasure in a beautiful ambience, both indoors and out. And we are very pleased that our awnings can be part of this stylish experience," he says in conclusion.
