The Adai Caddo Indian Nation Welcomes New Genealogists

The Adai Caddo Indian Nation of Louisiana announced that three of their members completed certificate programs in genealogy. The program was hosted by the International Association of Professions Career College (IAP). The three new genealogists are Dee Niette Thompson, Robin Tyree-Spence, and Bonnie Sue Moore Killman.

Genealogy is the study of the origins and history of the past and present members of a family (or families) and the tracing of their lineages. It is an important field of study for Native American Tribes and the US Bureau of Indian Affairs. Genealogical records are an integral part of the basis for recognition of a tribe and individual membership within the tribe. The Adai Caddo Indian Nation is a state-recognized tribe and one of the indigenous tribes of Louisiana having resided within the present boundaries of the state since time immemorial.

Dee is the historian and archivist of the Adai Caddo Indian Nation. She retired from Avaya Communications. Dee previously served as President of the Southern Hills Homeowners Association and volunteered at the Northwest Family Justice Center, St. Mary of the Pines, and Sacred Hearth Catholic Church. She currently volunteers for the Baldwin County Humane Society. Dee studied Computer Science at Louisiana State University and Louisiana Tech.

Robin is a Senior Environmental Specialist and a Registered Sanitarian. She graduated from Oklahoma State with a BS in Animal Science. Robin has conducted genealogical research for over 40 years. She is the genealogist for her extended family and maintains records that include over 93,000 people.

Bonnie is retired and previously worked as a Cell Site Auditor for AT&T. She was a professional purebred dog handler and hobby farmer. She is the proud mother of Mary Killman, 2012 USA Olympian. Bonnie graduated with an AS in Agriculture from Murray State College and a BS in Agriculture from Oklahoma State University.

"We are so very proud of our members for completing their genealogy studies," said Robert Brevelle, Tribal Councilman of the Adai Caddo Indian Nation. "They will help in the research of our people so that we can continue to preserve and share our history for generations to come." Robert is also a certified genealogist having completed genealogy and heraldry programs at IAP, The Art Institute of Dallas, and through the Roman Catholic Church's programs at Presentation College and the Vatican.
