markilux has embellished ‘Hotel Schulz’ with a solar protection system

So, markilux has planned and realised solar shading for yet another hotel project. ‘Hotel Schulz’, situated in the centre of Berlin. has been provided with a generously proportioned pergola awning system. Since then, the outdoor terrace has been fulfilling the function of extended breakfast room. If needed, the the system can be completely closed in using vertical roller blinds.

‘Hotel Schulz’ is a modern, cosmopolitan hotel near the city centre on the River Spree which was opened in 2018. From the al fresco lounge area, it is possible to enjoy a view of the past history of the city as it adjoins a preserved section of the ‘Berlin Wall’ which reflects the spirit of the city through the brightly coloured graffiti which adorns it. The hotel management had decided to have the terrace shaded by awnings. They wanted to use the area amongst other things as an extended breakfast area where people from all around the world could meet one another.

The choice fell on a multi-field pergola unit

‘Intensive discussion and professional advice steered the customer towards our coupled pergola awning with tracfix cover guidance system. The awning, which consists of four separate but linked units, can be operated by radio remote control, measures a good 12 metres in width and covers an area of around 75 square metres’, explains Jan Kattenbeck, sales manager of the markilux back office team and head of the ‘team : project’ department. The al fresco lounge area now offers room for 50 guests in an outdoor location protected from wind and weather.

Panorama windows offer a clear view

This is possible, because the vertical roller blinds, markilux 776 tracfix, and made-to-measure triangular screens enclose the system on all sides. By integrating panorama windows, the historical remnants of The Wall can be kept in sight. In good weather, the area can be opened up again quickly, simply by raising the blinds. ‘The design of the hotel is very modern and inside even a little hip. Whereas from outside it gives more an impression of sobriety. For this reason, light and neutral colours have been selected for the cover and frame. They go well with the façade and the garishly colourful fragment of German history that abuts the premises of the hotel’, is Mr Kattenbeck's opinion. But it was also easy to find common ground with the customers. They had been looking for a competent planning service as well as top quality products that provide external solar and wet weather protection and as a result had decided to go with markilux.
